Didn´t we qualify!?

För ett par dagar sedan trillade det ner ett mail från Paul. En skotte från Dundee som vill delge oss upplägget på sin resa till Euro 2008, trots att Skottland tyvärr inte kvalificerade sig denna gången heller.

Thanks Paul. Looking forward to see you in Salzburg!

Well I hear you ask, is there 7 Scotsman traveling to Austria for the 2008 Euro's and will be in Salzburg when Sweden play Greece....don't they know they didn't qualify?
Are they still drunk from beating France, in Paris and think Scotland have made it? NO!!!! We unfortunately know that Scotland, in the end, were about 2 minutes away from qualifying behind Italy in their group but we'd already decided that we were going.

Back in October 2007, whilst traveling home from Paris and our final home game, I'd suggested just going and worrying about whether or not Scotland made it and if they did, worry about making changes to our travel then....so we started with a group of 6 of us - yes I did say they're will be 7 of us in Salzburg and it's because we have another who's got to fly to Munich and then get the train to meet us in Klagenfurt - he left his booking till late and the prices had gone up by lots.

Our group is quite different in it's ages!!! We've got my dad (who's 66), then 2 in their 50's, 2 in their 30's and then 2 in their 20's...not exactly lager louts are we..ha ha.
Unfortunately, I'm the one who makes these suggestions and because of this, I'm the one who finds out about the routes and costs and then books them (I also have to wait for the money as well)....my group now call me "The Travel Agent" - so far this year I've arranged our trip to Austria, a trip to Prague (this is the weekend before we leave for Austria) and a trip to Macedonia.....my family do wonder who I am sometimes!!!

So Austria, We leave from Dundee in Scotland on the morning of the 7th of June - this is the same day as the tournament begins, and we fly to Cologne. We stay in cologne for the night, as we get the 07.00 flight the next day to Klagenfurt.
This trip should be very good, as this is where Germany play their opening game against Poland....do you think we'll confuse the Germans, with have 6 kilted Scotsman on their flight??We stay in Klagenfurt for the Sunday and Monday nights and then at 09.36, we get the train to Salzburg and are due to arrive at 12.55 - the same day as I'm sure most of you will be arriving!!

We're staying in Salzburg for the Tuesday and Wednesday night and we, like every night we are away, plan to party with all the fans there....Just like 3 of us did in Germany during the World Cup!!

When you're in Salzburg and you think you see some Scotsman....you know, the one's with the kilts on...don't be shy, come over and have a chat...we'd love to meet you.

We leave Salzburg on the Thursday morning, on the 09.34 train to Vienna...we'll spend the next 2 nights in Vienna - we think this could be another jumping time to be there! It's the capital of Austria and the national team play host to Poland on the day we arrived.....great fun to be had be all.

We finish off our little tours of Austria by getting the 08.00 flight from Vienna on the Saturday morning to Berlin and just to make sure we use every spare second we're away, we'll have a night in Berlin as well.

Maybe my little explanation of how our trip came about, might explain a little about
what being a football supporter is but more importantly....what makes the "Tartan
Army" what they are......everyone's friendAlso, never take the easiest and simplest route to get from A to B....we much prefer starting at A, then going to M with a stopover in Z, then you take a shortcut to K but miss your connection to O. Sleep over in the airport in O and then get to B...ha ha.

Hope to see you all in Salzburg, Paul
